![]() ![]() This novel focuses on Sean with the author staying profoundly in his head, doing a deep dive into how many of our memories are real, and how many are false memories we’ve told ourselves, convinced of their truth. ![]() The plot revolving around the black box (the Memory Palace) reminded me a bit of the plot in The Candy House by Jennifer Egan, but that’s where the similarities end. I’m going with literary and speculative fiction, (which I do realize covers sci-fi). I’ve seen so many genres bandied about for this book, sci-fi being the most prevalent. Other mistake: When entering the Haunted Forest, the Scarecrow is carrying a pistol and a stick, the Lion has a bug sprayer and net, the Tin Man has a. Instead, the box takes over Sean’s life, slowly eroding his relationship with his children and fiancée, until Sean is convinced that his entire life has been a lie. Then she turned to her Army and cried: Girls, the gun isn't loaded Hooray, shrieked the rebels, delighted at this good news, and they proceeded to rush. Capn Bill and Trot had previously appeared in two other novels by Baum, The Sea Fairies and Sky Island. Start this video around the 1:20 mark to see him toss the gun behind him as he runs to the Tin Man. Capn Bill and Trot journey to Oz and, with the help of the Scarecrow, the former ruler of Oz, overthrow the villainous King Krewl of Jinxland. In fact, one of the biggest errors in this movie is in this scene, and you can see him throw the gun aside when it occurs. What sets him apart is his status as a widower who’s been unable to either remember or move on from the tragedy of his young wife’s death two decades prior.Īfter being a lucky “winner” at his company, his boss gives him a black box that will play back every memory Sean’s ever had, promising that the box will change his life. Big Oz fan here, and here might be the answer for you: Yes, he had a gun. He’s a senior-level tech manager, has two children, and a mortgage. In most respects, Sean Whittlesea lives an average life.
